Jeanette Catherine Stevenson passed away peacefully at Wesley Village in Wilmore, Kentucky, where she had been a resident since 2006. Born on June 11, 1936, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Jean was the beloved daughter of James and Isabell (Stewart)Stevenson. She was predeceased by her two brothers and her dear friend, Charles E. ("Eck") Branham, who passed away in 2022. She is survived by her nephew, Cameron Bogren.
As a young girl Jeanette enjoyed the Canadian Winter sports of skiing and ice skating, before going on to graduate from Saskatoon High School and later Athabasca University in Athabasca, Canada. After college Jeanette worked a year at the Saskatchewan University, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada before her adventuresome spirit took her south to United States in 1961. Jeanette maintained a dual citizenship with both countries.
She earned her master's degree in Systematic Theology from Andover Newton Seminary in Massachusetts and later continued her academic journey at the University of California at Berkeley, where she focused on Ph.D. studies in Old Testament. She took her first job in the book-publishing profession in Philadelphia and then moved in 1967, to Kentucky where she took a position as an editor of scholarly books in political science at the University of Kentucky Press. While in Lexington, she further expanded her skillset by earning an associate in arts degree with a concentration in computer programming from Fugazzi College. She then worked in the business department of the I.B. Moore Company. Jeanette moved from there to the job she stated was her most enjoyable job – working in the Urban County Division of Police in Lexington, specifically at the reports desk, the National Crime Information Center Computer and later in the Property and Evidence Unit, where she blended her administrative talents with her respect for law enforcement. She remained in that role until her retirement in 2001. Never stopping from looking for the next challenge, Jeanette took up the hobby of motorcycle riding and exploring the world through her personal connections being an amateur ham radio operator.
Jeanette moved to Wesley Village in 2006, and was known for her cheerful spirit, gentle kindness, love for learning and remaining current with evolving computer technologies. Her presence brought warmth to those around her, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
