Kure Beach - James Lewis Guffey 78, passed away January 16, 2026. He was a longtime resident of Gaston County, North Carolina, and upon retirement moved to
Kure Beach, North Carolina.
Jim was the son of James Leonard Guffey and Eva Guffey. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy and pride were his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Guffey; his daughter, Robin Forgione; and his cherished grandchildren, Gabe Forgione, Jairus Forgione, Jade Forgione, and Ivy Forgione, all of whom he adored. He is also survived by his siblings, Glenda Moore, Wayne Guffey, Sybil Giles, and Jackie Winchester. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Guffey, who passed away in 2006 at the age of 32 after a courageous battle with cancer, and by his siblings Roger Guffey, Patsy Dellinger, Lois Hoglen, and Kaye Goins.
A veteran of the United States Army, Jim served honorably during the Vietnam War with the 1st Infantry Division. His service reflected his sense of duty, quiet strength, and commitment to others.
Jim was a man of great depth and strength, shaped by his life experiences. Those who truly knew him understood the loyalty, generosity, and love that defined his heart.
Professionally, Jim was a brilliant electrician whose skill and knowledge were widely respected. He worked for Duke Power for many years and later served as a Mecklenburg County Inspector until his retirement. Exceptionally talented in the trades, Jim had an innate ability to understand how things worked and could fix anything. Friends and family relied on his knowledge, steady hands, and willingness to help.
Outside of work, Jim found joy in fishing and gardening, pursuits that reflected his appreciation for simple, meaningful moments. He was a doting grandfather and was very present for his grandchildren. Whether repairing something broken, tending to what he loved, or spending time with his family, Jim approached life with quiet simplicity and generosity.
Above all else, Jim will be remembered as a loving grandfather and a man deeply devoted to his family. His steady presence, loyalty, and love left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Jim's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched through his kindness and skill.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Dallas Methodist Church, located at 301 W. Main St., Dallas, North Carolina 28034, followed by a Memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
