James R. Haas, 71, of York, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a man who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, known for his kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family. Jim's life was a testament to the power of hard work, loyalty, and a deep commitment to the people he loved.
Jim was born on July 28, 1954, in York, to the late Robert and Delores Haas. Growing up in York, he formed lifelong friendships and was always the one to brighten a room with his infectious humor. A 1972 graduate of West York High School, Jim took pride in his roots and cherished the community he was a part of.
In December 1973, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Deb. Together, they built a life centered around love, laughter, and shared dreams. Their 50+ years of marriage were filled with deep companionship and joy. Jim was not only a devoted husband but also a proud father to Chad (Lisa) and Jared (Liz). His greatest joy, however, came from being a grandfather to six beautiful grandchildren: Tucker, Taylor, Drake, Ethan, Lucas, and Lily. Jim had a special bond with each of his grandchildren. He was also survived by his siblings, Larry Haas (Barb) and Susan Borror.
Jim's career spanned over four decades, during which he worked at Coyne Industrial Laundry, Pittman Manufacturing, and ultimately retired as a supervisor after 39 and a half years at BAE Systems. Known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and leadership, Jim was respected by all who worked with him. But it wasn't just his professionalism that set him apart, Jim truly cared about the people around him. His compassion, humility, and ability to bring out the best in others made him a natural leader and a cherished colleague.
Outside of work, Jim was passionate about the outdoors. He spent countless hours golfing, deer hunting, and camping with his family. The annual family camping trips were some of his favorite times, and he loved sitting around the campfire with loved ones, sharing stories and making memories. Jim and Deb also shared a love for travel, with many cruises and adventures. Whether exploring new destinations or simply enjoying time with family, Jim was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Jim's love for his family was unwavering, and he always prioritized their happiness and well-being. He was their biggest supporter, offering encouragement, advice, and a listening ear whenever they needed it. His legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will continue to live on through the generations he touched.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on November 14, 2025, at St. Stephens UCC, 1569 West Market Street, York. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, followed by a service at 7:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering Jim's life and legacy.
