James Cary "Shady" Hall

James Cary "Shady" Hall, 80, was born September 14, 1944 to James W. Hall and Betsy Osborne Hall. He passed on Saturday, March 15, 2025 in Sadieville, Kentucky. He grew up in the Oxford area of Scott County. Cary graduated from Georgetown High School in 1962 where he played football for Bill Wilson. After high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Rogers; they celebrated 62 years on February 15. Cary was a tobacco and grain farmer through the 80's. He was named "Scott County Farmer of the Year" in 1984. For 20 plus years, Cary worked for Central District Tobacco Warehouse. Cary was the founder and president of Shady Creek Trucking for 40 years. He was a well-known breeder of Belgian draft horses with the Bent Creek Farm stock found in 21 states and 3 Canadian provinces. Cary was a lifelong member of the Belgian Draft Horse Corporation, had served 3 years on the National Youth Board, was a member of the Bluegrass Horsepuller's Association, the Southern Draft Horse Association, and the Canadian Belgian Association. He was a longtime sponsor for the Bluegrass Horse and Mule Classic in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Cary is survived by his wife, Janice, his son, Jamie (Pam) Hall, his daughter, Paige Lawrence, five grandchildren, Kelsey Graham, McKenzie Hall, Sophie (Dallas) Sease, Eva Lawrence, Trey Hall, and great, granddaughter, Elizabeth Sease. He is also survived by his sister, Amy (Mark Roberts) Duncan. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Margaret Cook, and a brother-in-law, Jack Cook.
Services for Cary will be held at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 21. The Funeral will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 22. Burial will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery where Pallbearers will be Steve Lancaster, Stewart Combs, Coleman Stone, Wally Parrish, Rusty Ruth, Robert Daugherty, Gary Riddle, and James Connerley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Lindsey Apple, Jo Jo Russelburg, Harry Knepp, Mike Leaverton, Dennis Neclerio, Archie Barnes, Butch Adams, Jim Knepp, Dr. Kristina Lu, Jason Grose, and Donald Grose.
