James B. Harris, Jr. was born September 13, 1954, to the late James B. Harris, Sr., and Cornelia P. (Hopson) Harris on the Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine.
The family moved to Indianapolis (IN) in the 60’s. James received his early education at Danial Webster Elementary School, and George Washington High School. He also attended Velencia College in Orlando, Florida where he received an associate degree.
As a man he enjoyed racing slot cars, attending the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) National Drag Races at Indianapolis Raceway Park, and loved working on cars. James enjoyed basketball and during the summer months, you could find James and his friends at Lake Lemon, one of his favorite spots to go boating and water skiing.
James also enjoyed the open road and driving the “BIG RIGS.” He worked at Marathon Oil Company, driving a (18 wheel) gasoline fuel tanker. Later, James became his own boss (founder and owner) of J&A Trucking where he hauled produce across the country. After selling his company (J&A Trucking) and prior to his retirement (2019) from the road, James drove an 18- wheel “BIG RIG” for Wild Horse Trucking Company.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James, Sr., and Cornelia Harris, and one brother, Richard (Ricky). He leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, Gregory Harris, a host of cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Trinity Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 2253 Dr Andrew J Brown Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Rev. Dr. Natalie McClendon-Obie officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery.
