James Ellis Herring Jr., was born October 12, 1952 in Kansas City, KS to the parents of James and Flora Nell Herring who preceded him in death.

James professed a hope in Christ and baptized and united with the Mt. Zion baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Dr. C.L. Bachus Emeritus. Inspired by Ephesians 4:32, "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ." James loved a life filled with kindness and compassion. "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" is what James tried to exemplify in his life.

James loved and was very skilled and patient assembling all kinds and up to 5,000 kit pieces in a short time. On occasions he would work alongside his father with odd jobs.

James attended Kansas City, KS Public Schools.

With a sense of humor he would always be smiling and liked to kid around. He enjoyed watching science fiction and action movies. He would love to kid around and tease.

In his later years, he resided at Riverbend Acute Rehabilitation Facility. The nurses always treated James with a caring spirit and referred to him as a very cooperative patient.

James never married and had no children but the love of his life was, Dixie.

James departed this life on August 19, 2025.

He leaves three sisters, Violet Blue of Cleveland, Ohio, Delores Herring and Joyce Herring of Kansas City, KS; nephews, Christopher and Frederick herring of Kansas City, KS, and Robert Blue Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio; nieces, Sharon, Tonya, and Roberta Blue of Cleveland, Ohio; grandnieces, Faith and Denesha Herring of Sacramento, CA and Charde of Cleveland, Ohio and a host of family and friends.
