James "Jim" Marvin Hilligoss Jr., 74, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on December 11, 2025. He was born in Muncie, IN on May 1, 1951, to the late James Marvin Sr. and Ella Loretta (Harney) Hilligoss.
A proud 1970 graduate of Shenandoah High School, Jim built a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and humor. He spent more than 30 years with General Motors, retiring in 2001, and also worked as a skilled mechanic throughout his life.
Jim had a deep passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time at the family lake house on Palestine Lake in Warsaw, Indiana—one of his favorite places to relax and reconnect. A devoted NASCAR fan and proud NRA member, he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including a cold Miller Lite shared with friends and family.
Known for being both hearty and funny, Jim brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. Above all, he cherished his family and grandchildren, who were the heart of his world.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon Hilligoss; children, Sherri (Steven) Otto and James Hilligoss 3rd; grandchildren, Casey (Gary) Fulks, Jessica (Noah) Weipert, Dorian Ray, and Melissa Brooke Hilligoss; great grandchildren, Raelynn Poe and Addilyn Fulks; siblings, Cindy Howell and Larry Hilligoss; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim was proceeded in death by his sister, Connie Boozier and great grandson, Henry Weipert.
Services will be at 3:00pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home in Middletown, with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children at 2900 North Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL, 33607.
