Graveside services for Dr. James Herbert Hinderer, of Plano, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Athens, Texas under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.
James Hinderer passed away earlier this month after a brief illness.
James Herbert Hinderer was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Byron Frederick Hinderer and Marion Elizabeth (Barth) Hinderer. James graduated from Athens High School in 1960, received his bachelors in 1964 before going on to get his Doctorate of Philosophy in 1969 both from the University of Texas Austin. He worked as a senior scientist at Texas instruments from 1968 until Raytheon purchased the defense division from them in 1997, where he eventually retired in 2008. He also worked as a consultant for Sabre Systems from 2009 until 2012 and served as an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University from 1998 until 2008. PePaw loved spending time with his family, traveled extensively all over the world and spent countless hours going to the Addison airport to watch planes take off and land.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Whitney Oliver Phillips.
Survivors include his loving wife Dot Hinderer of Plano; his daughter, Heather Helayne Hinderer-Orum of Oak Point; siblings, Byron "Skip" Hinderer II, Carolyn Barth Hinderer, Marion "Betty" Hinderer Phillips and husband Howard Wendell Phillips all of Lake Jackson; grandchildren, Austin Garrett Orum and Tyler Garrison Orum both of Oak Point and brother-in-law, James Robert "Pete" Hickman and wife Karen.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
