James C. Holter, 81, of Enfield, CT, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024 at Agawam South Rehab and Nursing Home. He was born on July 2, 1943 in Bridgeport, CT to Chris and Viola (Jennings) Holter. Jim grew up in Trumbull, CT and graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport, CT. From there he was a proud member of the United States Marine Corp. Jim married the love of his life, Linda LeBel on May 6, 1967 and they raised their family in Enfield, CT. Prior to his retirement, he was a letter carrier for the USPS.
His memory will be cherished by his wife; Linda Holter and his children; Eric Holter and his wife Rebecca of North Carolina, Stacey Doucette of Enfield, CT, grandchildren; Duncan, Meagan, Katie, Emma, Kelly, Adam and Christian Holter, and Alex Doucette, great-grandchildren; Haddon, Everett and Penelope. James was predeceased by his parents; Chris and Viola Holter and his sister Susan Ayles. He is survived by his sister Carol Ann Holter.
Jim will be remembered for many things. We will carry in our hearts his lighthearted nature, appreciation of the simple things in life and kindness to his friends and family. He will be remembered as a constant provider for his family as a letter carrier and for his deep appreciation for humor. He was an avid weightlifter, classic car enthusiast, dog lover, and camera man. He loved to tell jokes and taught his grandchildren the art of being silly and mugging for the camera. He traveled often, most notably across the country by RV and walking from Connecticut to Vermont with his devoted wife. He left behind priceless memories of narrated video recordings of his many adventures with his family, including his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In his spare time, he could be found working on his fitness, competing in and judging power lifting meets, beating countless people at ping pong and bumper pool, playing cards, watching movies, and reading. His legacy also includes taking great care of his aging Aunt Evie and Uncle Benny. He will be sorely missed by many, but the memories will be cherished by all the hearts he touched.
Visitation will take place on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. A Funeral Home Service with full military honors will take place directly after at 6:00 pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. My deepest sympathies to you Linda and your family. Jim was a great guy and one of the first that I met when Bill started at the Post Office. Loved to make you laugh. May he rest in peace. With love Midge Davis
