James Lee Huffman, 77, died April 28, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Hutchinson. He was born July 2, 1947, in Scott City, to Robert and Elizabeth (Kohl) Huffman.
James graduated from Nickerson High School in 1965. He served in the United States Navy and Navy Reserves for six years. James worked as a mechanic for over 40 years at the Kansas Department of Transportation and Bob's Truck Repair, Hutchinson. James enjoyed working on cars and coaching his children's baseball teams. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson.
On November 20, 1970, he married Kathleen "Kathy" Joyce Ward, in Hutchinson. They shared over 52 years of marriage, prior to her death on December 7, 2022.
James is survived by: his children, Mike (Emily) Huffman of Manhattan, David Huffman of Kechi, Teresa Huffman of Hutchinson; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Blachford of Alden, Jean (Mike) Ober of Cottonwood, AZ, Vera Frye of Lyons, Dee Huffman of Skiatook, OK, Joe (Leslie) Huffman of Hutchinson, and Barb (Lou) Winterfield of Fountain Hills, AZ.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Kathy Huffman; and brothers, Frank and Tom Huffman.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, 211 E. 5th Ave., Hutchinson, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family to receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
