James F. Hufnagel "Jim", age 70, passed away on October 10, 2021, in York, PA, following complications due to a life-long battle with Type 1 Diabetes, diagnosed at the age of 3. Jim surpassed all expectations by his physicians then and recently, in his resilience, positive attitude and skill at controlling the disease for over 60 years. Jim was a graduate of Susquehannock High School. A life long craftsman, contractor and cabinet maker, who built his own home and helped with the construction, remodeling and repair of many others in the community. Jim was usually a reserved and quiet person, even when it came to promoting his own business. Word of mouth, about his attention to detail, quality workmanship and historic restorations kept him busy throughout his work life. His clients, who got to know him well and his friends and fellow craftsmen had the chance to enjoy his sense of humor, and that quiet chuckle he'd make at a good joke.
Jim is survived by Brandon Hufnagel, his son, and his partner Matthew Wink of Glen Rock as well as a loving group of extended family, friends and physicians. He was preceded in death by Arthur "Ottie" Hufnagel - father, Mildred (Geiple) Hufnagel - mother, Briana Lazar - daughter, and John "Otts" Hufnagel - brother.
A service for the family is to be held at a later date.
Burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Glen Rock at the family's convenience.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in James's name to The Arthur Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock or The American Diabetes Association.
