On Saturday October 11, 2025, Myrl L. Bortner, 87, of Glen Rock, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband to Joanna (Dietz) Bortner for 64 years.
Myrl was born on January 7, 1938, in Glen Rock, to the late Lewis and Augusta (Graser) Bortner. He attended Shaffer's one room school and Susquehannock High School. Myrl was a farmer and dedicated employee for AMP, Inc. for 42 years.
He was a member of Dry Run Hunting Camp since 1960; the Jefferson AARP; and was a very active life-member of St. Jacob's Stone Church, where he was the cemetery treasurer and served on church council. He also delivered food with Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.
He coached SYC baseball; enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Myrl loved watching NASCAR, rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter. Spending time with family and friends brought him joy.
Myrl is survived by his loving wife, Joanna; three children, Stanley Bortner (Cindy Lassiter), Steven Bortner (Sondra), and Susan Barnhart (Kevin); six grandchildren, Evelyn Bortner, Samantha Bryner (Kevin), Stephanie Bortner (Brett Bonner), Abbey Burnell (Evan), Matthew Barnhart (Alexis), and Jacob Barnhart; he also has two great-grandchildren on the way! Also surviving him are two siblings, Paul Bortner (Violet), and Mary Swartzbaugh (Ashley). Myrl was preceded in death by his parents; and ten siblings, Arlene Markel Myers, George Bortner, Marguerite Myers, Lewis Bortner, Jr., Dorothy Stetzer Flemmens, Anna Dubbs, Leona Wildasin, Clyde Bortner, Donald Bortner, and Thelma Thoman.
Public viewings will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 6-8pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, then again on Friday, October 17 from 10am until a funeral service begins at 11am at St. Jacob's Stone UCC, 5152 Stone Church Rd., Glenville, PA 17329. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are recommended to St. Jacob's Stone UCC or the St. Jacob's Stone Cemetery by mail at the address above.
