James Hunt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doherty Funeral Homes, Inc. - Pike Creek on Sep. 19, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

James Kevin Hunt, 66, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2025. Affectionately known as Kevin, he was born in Wilmington, Delaware on January 28, 1959 to Olga M. (Duszak) Hunt and the late James E. Hunt. In addition to his mother, Kevin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth A. (Riley) Hunt; his sons, James "Ryan" and John "Ethan"; his sisters, Carla Dimiris and Cathy Hunt, along with five nieces and nephews: Alyssa, Alexa, Alyson, Nicole and Zachary.

A graduate of A.I. duPont High School, Kevin received Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Delaware and worked at various banks before finally landing his dream job with the Department of Defense in Philadelphia at Boeing, managing financial contracts for the Chinook and Osprey helicopters.

Kevin played soccer at A.I duPont High School, participated in club sports and the New Castle County League until the age of 56, and managed the adult teams. Additionally he coached many years for the Hockessin Soccer Club youth teams through high school travel team level, where both his sons played. Before beginning his work day, Kevin enjoyed 6:00AM basketball games at various gyms and church facilities. After retirement, his days included, almost daily, grocery shopping to find the best sale, walking at Winterthur, feeding Cheerios to the koi, engaging with anyone and everyone who wanted to chat about anything, becoming an unofficial volunteer there and also cutting his vast lawn with his beloved zero turn mower. Kevin was also a self-professed weatherman, nature lover/observer, and an excellent chef; so many enjoyed his cooking and his fruitful vegetable garden. As a seafood connoisseur, treasured most were blue crabs cooked only by him. His younger days were full of fishing, crabbing in Avalon and local Delaware waterways.

A most devoted, loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle, Kevin will be sorely missed by so many friends and family.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, September 25 from 1:30 – 3:00PM. A remembrance service will begin at 3:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kevin may be made to the Gift of Life Program, to which he physically donated, (www.donors1.org), American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), Winterthur Museum (www.winterthur.org) or any worthy organizations.

Kevin's parents have been life-long dear friends of my parents, and I remember enjoying fun times together when we were young children. He was a fun-loving kind soul. My family sends their deepest condolences to the Hunt family. Know that our thoughts are with all of you at this very difficult time. RIP Kevin, and hugs to all of you from the entire Sanderson family.

I have fond memories of growing up in Hockessin, A.I. High School, and the UD.
I´ll remember Kevin as an ornery, fun loving guy.
My deepest condolences to the entire Hunt family.

My sincere condolences to the Hunt family. The first time I met Kevin in high school is when he had a keg party. We all had fond memories of Kevin.
My warmest regards,
