Memorial services for Mr. James Hyatt, 81, of Gary, Texas will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. James Hugh Hyatt was born February 24, 1944, in Urania, Louisiana. He passed this life September 5, 2025, in Carthage, Texas. James was born to the marriage of Della Mae Johnson and William Frank Hyatt. He was raised in the Baptist Faith and schooled in many places being an Army brat. He married Gwenda Louise Wedgeworth Poole on November 18, 1962, and they celebrated almost 63 years of marriage. Mr. Hyatt spent his career as a machinist working at Western Electric/ AT&T/ Lucent Technologies until his retirement. James was a talented writer, composing songs and poems throughout his life. He loved and placed his family above all else. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mildred Foy and Nellie Faye Shaw; brother, Sylvester Ray "Soda Pop" Johnson. Mr. Hyatt is survived by his loving wife, Gwenda Hyatt of Gary; sons, Rickey Lynn Hyatt of Stonewall, James Michael Hyatt and wife Melinda of Keithville, LA; daughter Connie Annette Phillips and husband Patrick of Gary; sisters Artie Ann Busby of Clarks, LA and Gladys Marie Wase of Mexico; grandchildren, Cynthia Lynn Guice and husband Brian, Haley Rachelle Potts and husband Branden, James Russell Berggren and wife Brenda, Nicholas Aaron Hyatt and wife Brittany, Amanda Beth Walker and husband Allen; (14) great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
