KULPMONT - James Mark Janovich, 76, of Roosevelt Court in Kulpmont, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024.
Born on June 16, 1948, he was a beloved son of the late Edward and Florence (Dunsavage) Janovich.
He attended Coal Township High School, go Purple Demons, and was in the first class that graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1966 and went on to bravely serve his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War, where he earned a Bronze Star with Valor for his heroism during an attack on LZ Ike.
On July 12, 1975, James married the love of his life, Jolene Angeli, at St. Peter's Church in Mount Carmel. Their love grew and flourished over 49 wonderful years together, filled with memories and the joys of family.
He was a member of Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont, the American Legion Kulpmont Post No. 231 and the Brady Fire Company.
James dedicated much of his career to the Pennsylvania Railroad, later working for Conrail and Norfolk Southern. Known for his loyalty and hard work, he was a respected employee and a friend to many.
A devoted family man, James was passionate about supporting his children's and grandchildren's sports teams. A true sports enthusiast, he cheered for the New York Yankees, the Green Bay Packers, and the Northwestern Wildcats.
He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Roosevelt Court, the Legion, and Star Physical Therapy.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roland; his brothers, William and Gerald; his sister, Faith Ann (Smink); nephews, Kenneth Edward Smink and William Janovich; his infant nephew, Kenneth Smink; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Victor and Victoria Angeli of Mount Carmel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jolene; his daughter, Jennifer Morris and her husband Damon of Den-Mar Gardens; his son, James Janovich and his wife Heather of Etters; and his son, Jeffrey Janovich and his wife Laura of Mt. Pleasant Mills. He was a proud grandfather to Jessa, Addison, Emily, Brady, Zander, and Kale. James is also survived by his brother, Richard and his wife Dolores of Ranshaw; sister-in-law, Patricia Janovich of Trevorton, sister-in-law, Kathy (Angeli) Pranton and her husband John of Brookhaven, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering love for his family, and his joyful spirit that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024 in Holy Angels Church, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont, with the Rev. Andrew J. Stahmer, pastor, as the celebrant. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass Wednesday morning in Holy Angels Church.
