James "Jimmy" Clinton Steadham, Jr., beloved father, son, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born on May 12, 1943, in Leesburg, MS in Rankin County, and lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering passion for his family and work.
Jimmy's journey in the trucking industry began at the tender age of sixteen, embarking on cross-country routes that took him to California and back to his roots. As the owner of Dry Creek Trucking Company, he specialized in hauling perishable commodities, demonstrating not just a commitment to his profession, but a profound work ethic that earned him respect among his peers.
Kind-hearted and generous, Jimmy was known for placing the needs of others before his own. His compassion shone through in countless ways, including the thoughtful gestures he made for friends during their times of grief, often ordering flowers to comfort them. Those who knew him recognized that he truly had a heart of gold.
Jimmy took great pride in his family and was especially proud of the new home he built for his wife and daughter. He cherished the relationships he nurtured with his loved ones and found immense joy in being a father. His legacy lives on through his son, Dewayne Steadham of Pelahatchie, MS, and his daughter, Brenda Chandler of Jackson, MS. He is also survived by his grandchild, Curry Steadham (Alisa Raymond), who will carry forward his memory.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lilly Grace Bynum Steadham; his parents, James Clinton Steadham, Sr.; and his sister, Ramona Steadham. Their absence will be deeply felt, yet Jimmy's spirit will remain present in the hearts of those who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, starting at 12:30 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, Mississippi, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will conclude the day, ensuring that Jimmy is laid to rest with the honor and respect he profoundly deserves.
Jimmy's wonderful heart and bright smile will be greatly missed, but his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
