James Eugene Johnson transitioned peacefully at Wynhoven Health Care Center on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the age of 66. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA. James was formerly employed as a deckhand. Proud father of Geneva Johnson, James E. Johnson, Jr., James Benn, Jamie Benn, and the late Fredrick Benn, Sr. Loving grandfather of Fredrick Benn, Jr., Marsha Benn, Marshanay Benn, James Butler, and Jamie Benn. Beloved son of the late James Eugene Johnson and Dolores Johnson. He was raised by the late Mable Ford, whom he loved as a mother. Brother of Wayne, Norvin, Robert, Everett, Eugene, Ronald, Shirlean, Rita, and Loshonda. Cherished uncle of Tamika. Father-in-law of Lakura Banks and Demetrious Benn. James is also survived by his goddaughter Patricia Brown and her children, Kerri Smith, I’keem, Smith, Faith Martin, Kierah Martin, Couren Brown, Corey Brown, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. James’ warmth and humor has left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Graveside Service at Holy Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 1409 Manhattan Blvd., Harvey, LA on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Viewing will begin at 9: 30a.m. until service time.
