James F. Johnson Sr., 79, of Elmendorf, Texas, passed away on August 4, 2025. He was born on February 17, 1946, in Hemingway, South Carolina, one of seven children of James Claude Johnson and Asdis Ingigerour Saemundsdottir.

James was first married to Cheryl Johnson, with whom he shared many years and raised their children, James F. Johnson Jr., Kimberly Ann Johnson, and Jeffrey O. Johnson Sr. On May 1, 1987, he married Virginia Lozano in San Antonio, Texas, and together they shared 38 years of marriage.

In the early 1980s, James began working with Red Simpson, Inc., where he became an integral part of the company until his retirement. His commitment and work ethic left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

James had a lifelong love of fishing, working on cars, and tackling home renovation projects, always lending a hand to anyone in need. In his career, he earned the respect of many as a Foreman in the power line construction industry, where his leadership and work ethic set him apart. At home, he was known for his brisket and ribs on the grill, and he proudly carried on the family tradition of roasting a whole pig for Christmas. Above all, James will be remembered for his generosity, his craftsmanship, and the deep love he had for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lozano Johnson; his children, James F. Johnson Jr. (Diane), Kimberly Ann Johnson, and Jeffrey O. Johnson Sr. (Jacqueline); his stepdaughter, Barbara Mask; his grandchildren, Leanna Johnson, Angelica Ibarra, James Johnson III, Samuel Ibarra, Jeffrey O. Johnson Jr., and Joseph Johnson; and his great-grandchildren, Andrew James Johnson, Blaize Ryce-Patrick Johnson, Wynter Skye Richardson, and Daniel James Ibarra. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann Thomason, and his brother, Joey Johnson.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Cheryl Johnson; his brothers, Herbert Johnson, John Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Ralph Johnson; his sister, Ella Martha Baker; and his stepdaughter, Patricia Mireles.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with a memorial ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
