James "Jimmy" Johnson passed away peacefully Tuesday July, 15th 2025. Jimmy was born Oct. 8, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida, on the family farm, to his mom Willie and his dad Peter Johnson. His family moved from Florida to Nevada when his dad took a job working on the Hoover Dam where he learned to do masonry work. Jimmy came to Beaver with his father and uncle and did rock work on the old fire house and a few other buildings in town.
Jimmy served in the United States Navy in the Naval Reserve Manpower center and also served in the Vietnam war as a Medical Assistant. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medical with one Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. When Jimmy returned home he went to work as an Executive at Nevada Power Company until he retired. One of the projects he worked on was the large utility tunnel that he designed. He also oversaw all the office staff and lineman for some time.
Jimmy was married for a short time, but never had any children. He had many nieces and nephews that he considered his own children. He supported them through their younger years and looked after them in many ways. He loved his family fiercely and was always there when they needed him.
After retiring he moved to Beaver Utah where he had worked with his dad and uncle when he was a child. He came back to golf a couple times and decided this is where he wanted to retire. He always loved the mountains here and they called him back when he got the chance. Jimmy loved the mountain and riding his ATV. He did many trail rides with one of his great friends Dell Hollingshead. He loved the ATV club and was able to be president for several years. Even after he wasn't able to ride much he loved to talk about it to everyone.
Jimmy joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings. He loved serving in the Cedar City Temple and teaching gospel doctrine class. He enjoyed when the Young Men would come to help with his yard or do a service for him. He liked to make sure that they took the time to recognize what they accomplished and make sure they knew he appreciated them.
Jimmy loved his home and liked to keep the yard looking great and enjoyed directing projects to improve his home and vehicles. Jimmy had a soft spot for his fur family, his dogs Sophie, Cody, Peaches and Scooter and his cat Boots. Jimmy enjoyed his golden years in Beaver and became like family to many here. He loved his neighbors, the Harris Family, who looked after him, and others in his neighborhood. They have a great sense of community there. The Bartlett family helped Jimmy with projects and repairs on his home that led to a great friendship that became like family, Jimmy would often tell people that Will was his adopted son.He enjoyed having many holidays and family celebrations together. Many others in Beaver considered Jimmy a great friend and family. He touched many lives here.
Jimmy gave to many charities and organizations through the years some of which were the SPCA animal rescue, the Utah Sheriffs Association, Wounded Warrior Project and St Judes. He also served in the honor guard in Beaver.
