James Joseph Johnson Sr. passed away on June 12, 2025 while under hospice care at The Springs at St. Andrew's Village in Aurora, Colorado.
Jim was born on April 20, 1943 in Troy, New York to Ruth M. Corr and Edward Johnson Sr, both of New York. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy and attended Hudson Valley Community College until joining the Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver where he met his future wife Janet May. They were married in 1970. After discharge from the Air Force, they moved to Vermont where Jim attended the University of Vermont until relocating back to the Denver area where he graduated from Metropolitan State College.
Over the years, Jim was employed by Frontier Airlines, the Internal Revenue Service and the job he loved the most as a Knights of Columbus insurance agent for the state of Colorado. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus in both Vermont and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Johnson of Aurora, CO and his sister Ellen M. Pavone of Glenmont, NY. Also surviving are two sons, James Johnson, Jr of Rathdrum, ID and Jeffrey Johnson of Aurora, CO.
Preceding him in death along with his parents were sisters Jane (1940) and Margaret (2008), and a brother Edward, Jr (2022).
A private service will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a future date.
