James Walter “Jim” Ketterer, 96, of Lafayette, passed away at IU Arnett Health Hospital in Lafayette 11:14 PM Tuesday April 9, 2024. Jim was born February 8, 1928, the son of the late Joseph C. and Mary (Thoennes) Ketterer in Lafayette and was a 1947 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He joined the Indiana National Guard after graduating high school and was a member for six years, being trained in artillery. Jim married Mary A. Ricks at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette November 24,1949 and she preceded him in death July 3, 2013. He was a certified welder, plumber and steamfitter for over 40 years, retiring at the age of sixty-three and a half years. Jim was a member of Local 157, Plumbers and Steamfitters Union in Terre Haute, a member of St. Mary Cathedral and was an accomplished wood carver, especially birds. Surviving is a daughter, Julie Ann Sullivan (Bill) of Venice, FL, four sons, David J. Ketterer (Linda) of Monticello, IN, Thomas J. Ketterer (Jackie) of Lafayette, IN, Michael A. Ketterer (Isabelle) of Kerrsville, TX, and James J. Ketterer (Aimee) of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Robert Ketterer (Mabel) and Dan Ketterer (Janice) both of Lafayette, IN and by one sister, Carol Sue McKay (Dave) of Breman, GA. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey F. Ketterer (Brandy), 3 sisters, Joanne Spaker, Barbara Michalke and Rosemary Furrer and a brother, Charles Ketterer. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Tuesday April 16, 2024, Fr. Anthony Rowland officiating.
