James LaBay died peacefully at home in Rancho Mirage, CA on September 18, 2025. Since receiving a diagnosis of stage IV, pancreatic cancer in February Jim lived his best life as he always had. Surrounded by family and friends with a renewed passion for his art, music, and books. Jim is survived by his life partner of forty-four years, Richard McLaughlin of Rancho Mirage. His sister Mary Lee LaBay, nephew Quincy Miller and nieces London Pine, Anne Marie McLaughlin and Sarah Demetrick. He was pre-deceased by his devoted parents Maurice and Margery LaBay. Jim's work in graphic design was the outcome of a long and passionate creative process throughout his lifetime. His expression though art, passion for music and books led to a large volume of work that will continue to inspire those closest to him. His gentle, kind and stoic demeanor were the first and last things noticed by family, close friends and those who knew him. Jim embodied the spirit of unconditional love and acceptance toward everyone. Per his wishes there are no memorial services; his remains will be scattered at sea off the southern coast of California. A sincere thank you to all of you who were part of his recent journey and maintained the courage to support him throughout the process.
