James M. Larson

James M. Larson passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2024. Jim was diagnosed with ALS nearly 9 years ago and died of complications from the disease. Jim was the beloved husband of Clare (Lisherness) Larson, loving father of Julie Larson of Medford, MA and Anne Marie Larson, Marshfield, MA. Dear brother of Terrie (Larson) Critchfield and her husband Steve of Osburn, ID and John Larson also of Osburn, ID. Jim was also the brother-in-law of Judy Lisherness and John Griffin, and Jane and Steve Shannon. Jim also leaves many extended family members and many close friends.
Jim was born in Wichita Falls, TX on November 4, 1962, the cherished son of the late Robert and Ruth (Helms) Larson. Jim's father was in the Navy, and as such, the family relocated often – living in Texas, Washington, Louisiana, and California before moving to Massachusetts where Jim attended Marshfield High School (Class of 1981) where he met his future wife, Clare. Jim and Clare were married a few years later in Texas, eventually moving back to Marshfield and were blessed with daughters Julie and Anne Marie.
Jim's career included working in the security field, working as a private investigator, and as a Deputy Sheriff and medical officer for the Plymouth County Sheriff's Dept.
Jim was an accomplished musician, singer and songwriter. He excelled at playing many instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin and dobro. He was a member of multiple bands, including his band The Full Moon Revue where he recorded many of his original songs, including "When You're Down" and "Texas Can Come Visit". Jim and his two daughters also recorded a beautiful Christmas album together.
Jim enjoyed spending many summer vacations with Clare, Julie and Anne Marie and close friends, traveling to Nova Scotia – and visiting family in Idaho, Texas and California. He enjoyed sailing and the beach. He could often be found tailgating with family and friends at Duxbury beach. He was also known for his "Dad" jokes. He had a mischievous sense of humor and a smile to match. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan (of course!). Jim loved to fly and got his pilot's license in the early 90's. He also became a talented amateur photographer and loved to spend time capturing many wonderful photos, mostly of South Shore nature and scenery.
Jim's faith in God strengthened him during his illness. He often spoke of how grateful he was for the many blessings he received in life – his wife, his children, his family, his friends, his music among them.
Jim's funeral mass will be celebrated by his dear friend, Fr. Sean Connor at St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main St. (Rte. 3A), Marshfield, MA, on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m.
