James W. Lasher, 88, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025.
Born on February 18, 1937, in East Franklin, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Theodore and Elsie (Walker) Lasher. James was a proud graduate of Union City High School.
A dedicated patriot, James served three years in the U.S. Army, where he trained in radio repair and operations, and later continued his service with 20 additional years in the Army National Guard. He was also an active member of the Pennsylvania Society SAR Chapter General Arthur St. Clair. James committed much of his life to helping others through his 20 years with the Salvation Army in Ashtabula and Bradford, Pennsylvania. He also worked for 18 years at Jefferson General Electric.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Woodworth, with whom he built a life full of love, family, and dedication.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lasher; children: Kevin (Hannelore) Lasher, John Lasher, Phillip (Peggy) Lasher, and Thomas Lasher; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., at Fleming & Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio. James will be laid to rest at Madison Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Larry Emery and his wife Dianne, and to Lee and Dorothy Clutter, for their devoted care and support of James and Barbara throughout the years.
James W. Lasher's legacy of service, kindness, and devotion to family will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
