James R. Mackey, 61, of Greenfield, IN, passed away July 17, 2025 in Greenfield, IN.
Jim was born January 27, 1964 in Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of Virginia Mackey (Ax) and Gene Raymond Mackey. In High School Jim played Football and Wrestled for the Knightstown, Indiana Panthers. Following graduation from Knightstown High School Jim worked the rest of his life giving to others as a Caregiver, Mentor, Counselor and all around nice guy to those with disabilities and anyone else that crossed his path.
Jim excelled as coach to Special Olympic Athletes from the Greenfield, Indiana area. Coaching some athletes in golf to the Nationals. When Jim wasn't helping others he played lots of golf himself. He once knocked in a hole-in-one, hole 13, 201 yards up hill at Horse Shoe Bend Golf Course.
Jim is survived by his mother Virginia (Ginny) Mackey (Ax), his brother Steven and Karen Mackey, his sister Marie (Mackey) Dokes, niece Kina (Mackey) Arnett, niece Danielle Chavaria, nephew Zackary Reynolds, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends who will miss him dearly. James is preceded in death by his father Gene R. Mackey.
