Cumberland, MD – James Arlie Martin, 89, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center.
Born February 15, 1935, in Cumberland, MD, James was the son of the late Arlie James Martin and Mildred (Hershman) Martin. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Shirley Jean Smith and Betty Jane Lee.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, James retired from the Baltimore City Fire Department Engine 8 Truck #10 and Maryland State Deputy Fire Marshall office in Garrett and Allegany Counties. Jim was an active member in the F Club at Fort Hill having served as Vice President. He was an avid Fort Hill Football Fan, having attended all the practices and games, he also loved the Baltimore Orioles. He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #90, the Trinity Lutheran Church, and AFL-CIO Union in Baltimore City. James also enjoyed fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He was an outgoing person who loved his family, enjoyed telling jokes, and had the ability to light up any room.
James is survived by his wife of 41 years: Linda Martin, and her daughter: Christine Blank (Paul); his daughters: Linda Goss (Toby); and Lisa Peterson; his grandchildren who were the light of his life: Mike Blank (Amanda); Andrew Blank (Fiancée, Yang); and Cole Blank; his great-grandchildren: Owen, and Madelynn Blank; his brother: Donald Martin (Mary); and his sisters: Rosemary Stotler and Carol Gross; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including is two very close nieces: Melissa Sines, and Ashley Klos.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. with Reverend Eric Ruble officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church 320 N. Centre St. Cumberland, MD 21502.
