It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Edward Martin Sr., who died peacefully at his home in Painesville, Ohio, at the age of 85, surrounded by family, on August 21, 2025. James was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born on May 10, 1940, in Florence, South Carolina, he was renowned for his generosity, steadfast devotion to family and friends, and his lasting contributions to the community.

James enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an industrial machinist, dedicating more than 40 years to the Dyson and Mid-West Forge Corporations of Painesville and Cleveland, Ohio. After retirement, he treasured the time spent with his wife Gloria, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for family was evident in every aspect of his life, as he shared moments, imparted wisdom, and created enduring memories with his loved ones. With a caring nature, James was always ready to offer advice, guidance, support, and encouragement.

James is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children, Ricky Beamer Sr., James E. Martin Jr., and Sonia Lynette Sams; his grandchildren, Theodore, Kordell, Cierra, Gloria, Janay, Kyle, Ricky Jr., and Tierra; his great-grandchildren, Savon and Kiara; his brothers, Nathaniel, David, and Thomas; sisters, Janice, Patricia, Maryhelen, Joanne, Doreen, and Clara; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Venson Sr.; mother, Pearlie, brothers, Venson Jr., and Kenneth; and sisters, Geraldine, Nathine, Darlene, Jessiemae, Evelen and Bernice.

Family and friends will gather to honor James' life on August 30, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 West Jackson Street, Painesville, OH 44077. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m.
