James (Jim) McCann, 70, of Le Grand, IA, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at his residence following a prolonged illness. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion, 1301 South 6th St, Marshalltown, IA. Anderson Funeral Homes of Marshalltown has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Jim was born May 6,1953, in Wooster, OH, to Donald and Mary Alice (Beach) McCann. Tragically he lost his father at the tender age of four, prompting the family's relocation to Marshalltown, IA. There he attended St. Mary's Catholic School and ultimately graduated from the MHS class of 1971. Early on, Jim inherited his father's keen sense of style, and Jim was always seeking unique clothes to stand out in the crowd. Reading, playing pool, indulging in old western shows and Japanese monster movies were what he enjoyed in his leisure time. Jim was quite a talker, and in recent years he embraced Facebook as a platform to share some of his thousands of files about off-the-wall comics, classic cars and beloved music artists. While he was a rebel for some things, Jim was sentimental for the underprivileged, and had a kind heart. Throughout his life Jim brought laughter to all of those around him, making his absence deeply felt by everyone who knew him.
Jim will be remembered by his partner, Karen Milan; daughter, Sara Westbrook; brothers, Stephen (Debbie) McCann, and Jerry McCann; nieces and nephew, Erin (Gabe) Moeller, Michael (Sylvia) McCann, Mary (Chris) Fuchsen, Kathleen McCann, as well as his grandnieces and grandnephews who made him smile. He also considered the Weaver's as his second family; John and Vicki, Dustin, Jason, and Stef.
Preceding him in death are his parents, and a nephew, John McCann.
