James "Jim" Earl McCutchan, 86, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Evansville, Indiana on February 18, 1938 to the late Earl and Helen (Schnabel) McCutchan. During his time in college, Jim was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at Indiana State University Terre Haute. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash after serving over 50 years on the Scott Township Fire Department and over 35 years on the Scott Township Advisory Board. Jim was a Kentucky Colonel and Tennessee Squire. He served as past director of Hadi Oriental Band, was a member of the Evansville Printing House Craftsman Club, Huddleback Club, Scott Township Park Board and Civic Club, and Lessing Lodge 464 for 50 years. Jim was a founding member of MASO. He was a teacher at Stringtown Elementary, Harrison High School, and taught GED testing during his retirement. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan. He loved spending time at Heilman Hilton. Above all, he loved his family and cherished time spent with them. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Tammy Haywood of Evansville, IN; son, Tim McCutchan (Holly) of Lincoln City, IN; sister, Jeanne McCutchan of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Christopher Haywood (Samantha), Drew McCutchan (Miriah), and Savannah McCutchan; and great-grandchildren, Landyn, Greenlee, plus one more on the way.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Jeanne (Bryan) McCutchan; his parents; and granddaughter, Megan Haywood.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with Pastor Sue Williams officiating. A Masonic Service will be held at 12:45 pm. Burial will follow at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family invites everyone to Scott Township Park for light refreshments after the burial.
Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home.
