James L. "Jim" McIver, 93, of Buhler, Kansas, died Monday, December 19, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community. He was born October 24, 1929, in Satanta, Kansas, the son of Oscar L. and Alice Marie (Harlow) McIver.
He graduated from Langdon High School with the class of 1947.
Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a crew chief on a B-25 Bomber and was assigned to the 3530th Field Maintenance Squadron at Bryan Airport Base in Bryan, TX.
He worked 34 years for the United States Postal Service, three years in Hutchinson and 31 years as a rural letter carrier in Buhler.
Jim was united in marriage to Evelyn Ann Franz on September 5, 1954 at Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his two children, Bradley James "Brad" McIver (Debi Billings) of New Castle, CO, and Susan Marie "Suz" McIver of Andover; grandson, Jacob Cole McIver of Sidney, NE; two brothers, Mark (Lavonia) McIver of Satanta, and Corky (Esther) McIver of Alva, OK; and several dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.
Cremation is planned with a celebration of life to be announced and held later. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Phoenix Hospice in care of Buhler Mortuary, PO Box 589, Buhler, KS 67522.
