CENTERVILLE, IN– James L McQuiston Sr., 97, died peacefully August 24, 2025, in Largo, FL.
He was born August 13, 1928, to the late George and Esther McQuiston. James was born in Pennsylvania, lived much of his life in Centerville, IN and spent the last 20 plus years of his life in Largo, FL. He retired from Belden Wire & Cable. James was a proud Coast Guard veteran and member of the American Legion and VFW. He was a Past Master of the Centerville Masonic Lodge. James was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joretta McQuiston; his parents George and Esther McQuiston; his brother George 'Bud' McQuiston; and his sister Ruth Lunsford.
James played tennis, golfed well into his 80s, and loved volunteering and socializing with friends and family at Lake Seminole Resort where he resided in Florida. He reunited with a high school sweetheart, Olivia Emery, after he moved to FL and spent many years traveling and enjoying her company.
James is survived by his son, Rusty McQuiston, his daughter Kathy (Harry) McQuiston-O'Dell; four grandsons: Matt (Kristin) McQuiston, Dan McQuiston, Chris (Bailey) Kerrick, Nate Kerrick; and three great grandchildren: Noah, Isabella and Lawson.
A celebration of life will be at the Centerville United Methodist Church, 112 South Morton Avenue, Centerville, Indiana on October 17, 2025, with Rev. Larry VanCamp officiating. Visitation will begin at noon followed by services at 1pm. A graveside service with military honors provided by The Wayne County Honor Guard will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, 407 Short Street, Centerville, Indiana.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Lakeview Restaurant, 1219 W National Rd., Cambridge City, IN 47327 following the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 508, Greenwood, IN 46142, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home.
