I am deeply saddened by this news. I have very fond memories of Coach Melvin and Claire and spent many hours on and off the tennis courts with them. He was a true inspiration for myself and for many other students. He will be missed.

When I first got my drivers license I backed into coach Melvin VW. Everytime he would give me a hard time for hitting his favorite car. He was love by all that knew him.

An excellent coach, avid tennis player/fan, and a purple heart recipient Vietnam vet who was quick with a joke while patient as a teacher. He was an impactful role model to me. A loss for the world but heaven's gain.

Coach Melvin was one of a kind. He had so much compassion, genuineness and made a legendary impression on all the lives he touched.

Just received the heart-wrenching news about Coach Melvin, and my heart is heavy with sadness. He was truly one of a kind, always positive and encouraging. Though I was too young to fully grasp the profound impact he was having on my life back then, I now recognize it was God´s plan to place him in my life. His unwavering positivity touched me deeply, and I know he did the same for many others. He will be dearly missed, but I take solace in the thought of our eventual reunion in Glory.
Rest in Peace, Coach Melvin

I´ll always remember him as Coach Melvin. He coached me on the basketball team at Graham Middle School. Great coach, funny man. I have fond memories of that time. RIP

So sorry to hear about the passing of Coach Melvin! My twin sister and I had him as our PE teacher at Graham High School as well as tennis coach when we played on the boys team as sophmores. Praying for his family and friends.
