James David Mensing, age 72, resident of Belleville, Ill., was born April 28, 1953 in Belleville, Ill., to Eugene George and Betty Frances, nee Lienesch, Mensing. He passed away at home on June 8, 2025. Jim attended Belleville West High School. He enjoyed fishing, being on the lake and spending time at the family home in the Ozarks. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Cheryl Bertrand Mensing; daughter Heather Deterding, and siblings James Ralph Mensing, Kenneth Mensing, and Virginia Humphrey. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Matt Crook) Wachtel of Belleville; sister Yvonne (Bill) Hurckes of East Peoria; grandchildren Ian (Julie) Weber, Alexander Wachtel, Cory Jones, Taylor (fiancé Samantha Meserve) Deterding, and Lainey (fiancé Brennan Fitzwater) Deterding; brother-in-law John Humphrey of Collinsville; sister-in-law Hoa Mensing of Belleville; several nieces and nephews; step-daughters Sara Goldsmith and Laura (Audie) Krejce; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. Sign the guestbook at www.wfh-ofallon.com. Visitation will begin at 6 pm, Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O'Fallon, Ill., followed by a service at 7 pm, with Pastor Christy Smith officiating.
