ABBEVILLE- A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, February 06, 2025 at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville honoring the life of James Dudley Merrill, 69, who passed away on February 2, 2025 at his residence in Lafayette. Deacon Roger Barnes will officiate at the funeral services. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dylan J. Guidroz, H. Barry Faciane, Jacob R. Faciane, Matthew P. Morgan, Travis A. Merrill, Logan J. Bossley, and Ethan W. Romero.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 9:00 AM until time of services. Known for his passion for life, James took great joy in fishing, showcasing his skills in many tournaments. He was also a competitive spirit, winning numerous fishing tournaments and participating in chili cook-offs, where his culinary talents shone. His generous heart was evident in the way he delighted his great-niece and great-nephews with his beloved chocolate treats, making every family gathering a joyful occasion.
Among his most treasured life events was the birth of his daughter, Haley, a moment that brought him immeasurable joy. James also cherished his travels around the globe, embracing new cultures and experiences, which enriched his life profoundly.
He is survived by his daughter, Haley M. Guidroz and her husband, Dylan; mother, Betty Joe Barnes Merrill; two sisters, Julie Ann Merrill, and Dana M. Faciane and her husband, Henry; three brothers, Clayton Alan Merrill, Carl Wayne Merrill and his wife, Theresa, and Danny Ray Merrill and his wife, Cheryl; along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clayton Gilbert Merrill, Sr.; baby sister, Terri Lynn; maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents; nephew, Clayton "Bubba" Merrill, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Sherry Merrill.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville (337) 893-4661.
