James E. Mickelson, 82, formerly of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025. He was born in Morris, Illinois on February 8, 1943 to William and Laura (Hann) Mickelson. After graduating from Morris High School, Jim went on to obtain his Bachelor's of Chemistry from the University of Illinois. He would work as a Chemist and then an Instrument Engineer at Sun Oil for 55 years before retiring in 2020. He made many good friends and was proud of the work he did at the refinery. Jim loved everything about golf, from watching to playing as well as watching college football, cheering on the Illini and Buckeyes. He cherished the time spent with his family and friends always finding time to help someone out with a home improvement project or play a game of Euchre.
He is survived by his son, Jim Mickelson; daughter-in-law Thasarin (Ton); granddaughter Fynlee; ex-wife JoAnn Mickelson; sister Lois Kircher; sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Mickelson; sister-in-law Janet Mickelson; and many nieces, nephews and loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings William (Bill), Duane and Sharon Mickelson.
Friends and family may visit Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Interment will remain private. Expressions of sympathy in James' name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
