James Milliner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home - Bardstown on Sep. 30, 2022.
James David "J.D." Milliner, 89, of Louisville, entered Eternal Life on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
J.D. was born in Grayson County, Kentucky to the late John Riley and Mary Frances Milliner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Dr. Pepper Bottling Company where he worked as a driver salesman. J.D. was a past longtime member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and more recently, a member of St. Albert the Great.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Acton (Sedat); grandsons, James Acton and Bryan Bishop; parents; and 9 siblings.
Carrying on J.D.'s legacy are his wife of 68 years, Lois Ann Todd Milliner; daughters, Sandy Bishop (Michael), Catherine Hislop (John), Lori Dench (Tim), and Mary Beth Milliner; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie Milliner; sister-in-law, Margie Milliner (Joe); and many nieces and nephews.
J.D. had many loves in life, starting with his beautiful wife Lois. They met in high school and were married in Monterey, CA where he was stationed during the war. Upon their return to Kentucky, his life became a blend of perpetual teamwork with Lois, working hard to provide for his family, and reaching out to enjoy life. He was not a complicated man or a man of extravagance. He was not a member of clubs or a participant in sports. But, more importantly, he had faith in the Lord and he strived to instill that in his children. He loved to laugh and when he did, it was infectious. He loved to hear and tell stories, repeating them often with great enthusiasm. He loved candy with a vengeance and was not ashamed to seek out Lois' hiding places. He loved the noses of dogs and little children, as they were often the subject of his teasing. He loved Foghorn Leghorn cartoons on Saturday mornings and watching the Three Stooges never got old. He was inherently skilled at creating and repairing things around the house. And, like his brothers, he was mesmerized by the beauty of all kinds of music. He always had a song in his heart and he played guitar for many years, never really appreciating his talent. Beyond his wife and these simple pleasures, his love extended to his five daughters and their families, who loved him dearly in return.
Visitation will be from 3-8 PM on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 4 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 2042 Buechel Bank Road, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home of the Innocents or Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest. Condolences may be shared at Ratterman.com.
