North Smithfield - James T. Molis, 82, of Alpine Way, formerly of Lincoln, died Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Mount Saint Rita Health Centre, Cumberland. He was the beloved husband of Paulette J. (Bessette) Molis.
Born in Providence, the son of the late Domenic and Mary (Dick) Molis, he had lived in Lincoln for forty-six years, moving to North Smithfield three years ago.
Mr. Molis was a firefighter for the Providence Fire Department for twenty-four years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Retired Providence Police & Firefighters Association.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam era.
Jim loved to travel to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, especially the North Conway area. He was an avid hiker, going back to his days as young boy, alongside his father and uncles, and would take his family to the Dolly Copp Campground in Gorham every summer. But his true passion was his grandchildren. Grandpa and memere didn't miss an event. It didn't matter if it was a graduation in Florida, dance recital, track meet or baseball game. He watched, cheered and supported them because he was proud of whatever their accomplishments were. Whenever anyone of them walked into the room, his eyes would widen, his stature would straighten up, and call out their name like it's the first time he saw them in years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Amy Sayles and her husband Steve of Chepachet; three sons, Joseph L. Molis and his wife Deborah of Cumberland; James D. Molis and wife Molly of Ponte Vedre, Florida, and Brian T. Molis of North Smithfield. Mr. Molis was proud of his eleven grandchildren, Joseph L. Molis II, Owen Molis, Lindsay Molis, Daniel Molis, Robert Molis, Cecilia Molis, Virginia Molis, Olivia Molis, Wyatt Sayles, Charlotte Sayles and Etta Sayles.
His funeral will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 9:00 am from Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Jude Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Family and friends are invited, and may attend visiting hours on Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville, 8011 Philips Highway, Ste. 7, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or the Northern Florida School of Special Education, 223 Mill Creek Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 would be appreciated. My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. I met Jim working at Amica. He was by far the nicest person i'd met. I looked forward to a quick chat when he was in my building by my area. There was always a giggle when I saw him. Jim often spoke about his family & how proud he was.
We named our son James, he would ask "hey how's Jim doing". Always thoughtful & caring. Funny now my James is a Lincoln Firefighter.
Thank you Jim for the giggles, the advice on letting things go (work), and warning me on how fast time goes by with children & to cherish every day. Jim, you will be missed.
