James Leslie Dukes Monroe
MT. PLEASANT - James Leslie Dukes Monroe, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Born on March 15, 1940, in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of Martin B. Monroe and Louise Downes
A graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, B.S., and the University of Michigan, M.B.A.. James retired as Captain from the US Navy after 27 years of service. He was an avid tennis player and bridge devotee. Jim had been a Civil War Philatelist for over 60 years serving as President and Vice-President. Jim was best known for his collection of premium Confederate States Navy covers.
James is survived by his wife, Maggie Vann; his son, Eric Monroe; his daughter, Tasha Gabal and her two children, Sophia and Gavin.
Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the The Parkinson's Foundation.
