On Monday, July 31, 2023, James E. Mountjoy, resident of Ashland, passed away peacefully at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Mr. Mountjoy will be at 2:30 PM Sunday, August 6 at Ashland Baptist Church with Bro. Joe McIntire officiating. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 2:30 PM at Ashland Baptist Church.
Mr. Mountjoy was born July 7, 1960, in Hamilton, OH the son of Elvin Mountjoy of Hamilton, OH and the late Myrtle Hutchins Mountjoy. He was a graduate of New Miami High School where he excelled in baseball during his junior high years and standing an impressive 6 foot 6 inches, definitely contributed to the 1978 Viking basketball team reaching runner-up in the Ohio State Sectionals. He continued his education at Xavier University in Cincinnati before holding many management positions with Anixter, as well as COO and VP of Transcarriers. After leaving Transcarriers, Mr. Mountjoy became the Memphis Area Terminal Manager with the KLLM Equipment Solutions.
Mr. and Mrs. Mountjoy moved to their future retirement home in Ashland while Mr Mountjoy continued his career w/KLLM. Upon his cancer diagnosis, he retired from KLLM. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying his time fishing and deer hunting as long as his health permitted. An avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan, Mr. Mountjoy was a big man with an even bigger personality and his tremendous sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was a ray of sunshine, that brought love and laughter to everyone and his deep spirituality, his love of family and friends, his living life large and in the moment, will be his lasting legacy.
Loving memories will continue to be shared by his wife, Theresa Berryhill Mountjoy of Ashland, two daughters, Martina Vonbargen (Chris) of Chauncey, OH and Natasha Hudson (Brandon) of Southaven, his father, Elvin Mountjoy of Hamilton, OH, one brother, Darrell Mountjoy (Jamaine) of Wayne Township, OH and two grandchildren, Victoria Vonbargen and Logan Hudson.
