James William Mullaney, (Jim), age 78, of Selbyville, DE died Friday, August 8, 2025 peacefully at home. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and was the son of the late Howard B. Stump and Catherine M. (McCormick) Stump.
He was a retired contract specialist for the Federal Government. He was a member of VFW post 7234, American Legion and was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the U.S. Navy.
Jim was a selfless and generous man, dedicated to his family and volunteered as a scout leader, coach, or any other way he could to support his family and community. He and Rita loved to travel the world and try new experiences everywhere they went. Jim viewed life as an adventure and loved to share them with friends and family.
James is survived by his wife Rita R. Mullaney; two sons, James M. Mullaney and wife Jennifer of Prince Frederick, MD, Joseph B. Mullaney and wife Sanh of Dunkirk, MD; two brothers, Timothy P. Mullaney, Sr. (Renie) of Dover, DE and William C. Mullaney of Kissimmee, FL; two sisters, Kathleen Mullaney (Tom Witkowski) of Newark, DE and Kimberly Stump (Ken Hausman) of Edison, NJ; five grandchildren, Maura, James Tristin, Madden, Caitlin and Brianna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard R. Stump.
Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
