James Neef Obituary

James 'Jim' Andrew Neef
Born: April 10, 1955
Died: August 17, 2025
James "Jim" Andrew Neef, born on April 10, 1955, in Joliet, Illinois, went to his eternal home on August 17, 2025, in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was the beloved son of John and June Adair (Glindkamp) Neef, Sr.
Jim was known by several nicknames, Jimmy, Jamie, Butch, Major and perhaps a few more. He was a light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Patrice Bleger (Schroeder) Neef (19 AUG 2023), and parents, John and June Neef. He is survived by his brother, John David Neef, Jr. (A'nna) and sister, Jalayne Adair (Neef) Ahoyt. He also leaves behind his nephews, Jason Daren (Wendy) Neef and Dr. Justin Allan (Karen) Ahoyt; his nieces, Nolan Meredith (Anthony) Thompson and Nealy Meghan (Eric) Peters; Grandnephews include Caden Jay Neef, Nathan Francis and Connor Allan Ahoyt, Dreyson Wisdom, Emmitt Pollard and Dempsey Jay Peters, and Grandnieces McKenna Nicole and Maevry Meghan Neef, Madelyn Claire and Harper Grace Ahoyt, Bianca Rose Wisdom, Malloy Elizabeth, Conley Eileen, and Norine Wilette Peters.
Jim went through elementary school in Plainfield, Illinois and maintained many of his childhood friendships throughout his lifetime. In 1969, he began his four-year journey at Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois. His education at Marmion was something he was most proud of throughout his life, and felt his training taught him many useful skills as an adult. It also provided the foundation for a lifelong friendship with Michael Carpentieri, who traveled to be with Jim during his final few days.
Jim had many professions throughout his life and enjoyed them all. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed doing stained glass, riding motorcycles but most of all had a lifelong love of animals, particularly his dogs. He said goodbye to Piper shortly before his death.
Those who knew Jim will remember him for his infectious smile and overwhelming laughter. He was a gentle, unassuming man with a sly sense of humor. He enjoyed a good meal and sitting on the deck with a fine cigar and good music playing in the background.
There are no words to describe how grateful and blessed the family is for the assistance and love provided by Jim's dear friend, Judy DeSomma, and his wonderful neighbors, Eddie and Laurie Schumacher, as well as his friends who stood with him through the end.
Cremation rites have been accorded as per Jim's request. He will be laid to rest at the Plainfield Township Cemetery, together with his family members. The family is most grateful for the prayers and love sent their way at this emotional time.
If you would like to donate a gift in Jim's memory, please consider sending it to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of James A. Neef. This organization was very close to his heart.
