James Mark Nelson, also known as Jim and Jimmy, died June 13, 2022, at the age of 75. Jim was born in Glasgow, KY, and was the elder son of James Oren and Jeanette Dougherty Nelson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa Nelson; three children, Julie Nelson Craddock, Mark Nelson (Megan Bale), and Amanda Nelson Ragle; 6 grandchildren, Pierce and Nelson Craddock, Lizzie and Sylvia Nelson and Porter and Anna Byrns Ragle; brother, William "Bill" Nelson and wife, Dawn, and their children, Clay, Nick and Katie Nelson.
Jim was a graduate of Glasgow High School (Class of 1965) and Western Kentucky University. Passionate about education, he taught biology for many years and then worked in administration as principal at Glasgow High School. In addition to teaching, Jim lived and worked on the farm he loved in Barren County. He served in the Kentucky Army National Guard for 12 years and was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow.
A Memorial Service will be 10:00am Saturday June 25 at the First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow. Visitation will be on Friday afternoon from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and on Saturday morning from 9:00am until time for the service all at the Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flower the family request that a memorial donation be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
