James "Jimmy" Newton

James "Jimmy" Henry Newton, Jr., 75, of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.

Jimmy, also known as "Oil" by his family and close friends, was born June 22, 1950, in Rockingham, son of the late James Henry Newton, Sr. and Betty Dawkins Newton.

Jimmy worked many years with Clark Equipment and then with AT&T. He thoroughly enjoyed his family farm and spending his days there. He also was a fan of Carolina basketball and the New York Yankees. However, Jimmy's greatest love was his family, especially his adored grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his brother, Jonathan "Fig" Newton.

Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Kim Maske Newton of the home; daughter, Emma Newton of Rockingham; sons, Jon Newton (Angela) of Lakeland, Florida and Lucas Newton (Lacey) of Hamlet; his beloved grandchildren, Samuel, Silas, Briella, Jude, Noah, and Nina, in which he was known as proud Papa Jimmy; and sister, Kim Simmons Fisher (Tim) of Conway, SC.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 4:00-6:00pm at Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Rockingham.

The graveside service will be held at the family farm at 367 Beaverdam Church Road, Rockingham, on Sunday, January 4, 2026 beginning at 3:00pm. The service will be a time of sharing, as it was Jimmy's request, and the family suggests for you to "bring your own chair". Burial will follow the service.
