James Michael Ohlert

James Michael Ohlert passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the age of 78.
Jim was born on July 22, 1947 in Flint, Michigan to Lambert and Betty (Medberry) Ohlert. He grew up in Sterling Heights, Michigan and attended Catholic school. Jim was a welder by trade; did leather work and was a metal model maker at GM for 30 years before he retired. He met the love of his life Louise and they have been married for 35 wonderful years; raising an incredible blended family here in Armada, Michigan. Jim loved the outdoors and hunting every season. He was always up for an adventure and he and Louise traveled all over together. Jim enjoyed tinkering in his garage and spending time with his family; especially when he could teach his grandchildren about his leather works and even let them create some things on their own. He loved his entire family but he lived for his grandkids. Jim was an amazing father and the most amazing grandfather from making meals to making jokes, he always knew how to make someone smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Louise; sons, James Ohlert, Christopher (Carolyn) Ohlert, James (Paula) Straubel and Jason (Mary) Straubel; daughter-in-law, Staci Straubel; grandchildren, Peyton, Kaley, Christopher, Katrina, Haley, Josephine, Samuel, Anthony, Brooke, Bryce, Jenevieve, Braelynn and Karly; great-grandchildren, Zayne and Presley; brother, Michael Ohlert; sister, Bonnie Bowman; previous daughter-in-law, Jami Lawson; and many extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Louise; father, Lambert John; son, Jody Straubel; sister, Julie Ann Kiligian; brothers, Patrick Ohlert and Robert Ohlert; and nephew, Bryan Schalau.
Visitation for Jim will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Tiffany-Young & Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 Fulton, Armada. The funeral service for Jim will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
