Obituary of James Oliver
It is with great sadness that the Oliver family announces the passing of James Oliver. His journey on earth ended December 23, 2024, at the age of 66 leaving a legacy of love and memories.
James Oliver was born on December 30, 1957 to his loving mother Juanita Oliver and raised by his adopted parents Anne and Edward Coles in Queens, N.Y. He was the youngest of three children.
James loved the game of basketball and would play it at any and every opportunity. He would share his knowledge and skill of the game with the young and the old. James lived and worked in Philadelphia, P.A. for part of his life but later returned to New York where he worked for the past 20 years for the New York State Health Department at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, N.Y. James was a very dedicated worker and enjoyed all those he came in contact with during work. James was always willing to help out whenever asked.
James was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Oliver, adopted parents Anne and Edward Coles, brothers William Oliver, Edward Oliver and his "favorite" aunt Beatrice. James is survived by his five children Latoya, Aisa, Lateefah, Naimah and James Edward, sister in law, Robin Oliver (wife to the late Edward Oliver) and a host of grandchildren, grandnephews, cousins and friends. Family for James was anyone and everyone he had a relationship with, blood wasn't a determining factor of how he felt about the people in his life. We are blessed to have such a large family.

The Home Going Service for James will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115 Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182. Visitation will be held that morning at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
