On November 22, 2024, we had to say goodbye to our brother, James Ortiz. He went to be at peace after months of being sick.
James was born in Carrizozo, NM to Paul and Ramona Ortiz. He had post secondary training at then TVI, in Albuquerque, then joined his brothers in Wyoming where he worked for GE for several years. When he returned to NM, he worked at Ft. Stanton and received a certificate of Nursing Assistance. He later worked as a construction surveyor for several years. Afterwards he had an accident at his home and became totally disabled, and lived in Albuquerque from then on.
James will be remembered for his intelligence and wit, his endurance during tough times, and for his compassion for the poorest and the sickest around him.
Our family will forever miss him, and we thank those who have reached out to help us during this time of sorrow.
He is survived by his siblings, Frances, Robert, Rita, Esther, Tony, Fidel, Liz and Lois. His parents, Paul and Ramona Ortiz, and his brothers, Richard and Carl, are predeceased.

Knew James over on youtube through a community that are fascinated with military rations. Always active on youtube and showing up in someone's live stream chat here and there. Over the years I got to know him as a fun, awesome, laid back guy who loves to chat. For about the most of the year of 2024, I enjoyed his mini video shorts of the many different meals he would be having that day. Complaining a bit about the food that was being served/missing one day. Or being ecstatic on some steaks that he bought and having it cooked up for him the next. He would do a live stream showing us what is going on at the rehab center, what type of events would be going on for that day, driving around in his motorized wheelchair showing us the layout of the building he is staying at. One time, he had some raw sweet potatoes that he recently bought and one of them rolled under the vending machine, and we had a laugh about that. We joked around on what might happened to this sweet potato when it gets discovered months or years down the road by someone. I'm glad I got to meet someone like you buddy. You were always so happy and cheerful all the time. A gentle soul. Brightens up my day a bit more every time we got to chat. I will miss you and the conversations we have. These memories will always be with me. Your youtube channel, @jamesortiz5388, I will rewatch fondly. From your youtube buddy --- SpicyTunaRolls
