James Wilson Orwig, 80, of Rockland, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned decades and touched countless lives.
Jim's path led him to Quincy, Massachusetts where he established himself as a master auto mechanic, a profession he excelled at and dedicated his entire career to. Jim's legacy is deeply rooted in his family. He was the proud father of five daughters, Wendy, Heidi and Robin and then added stepdaughters Darlene and Wendy when he met Sandra, the love of his life, and together they built a life filled with love and joy. Jim's sense of humor was legendary. He had an incredible ability to make people laugh, brightening even the darkest days with his quick wit and infectious laugh. Whether it was through a clever remark, a playful joke, or a hilarious anecdote, Jim's humor brought joy to everyone around him and left a lasting impression.
Throughout his life, Jim's passions were diverse. He had a particular fondness for playing the slot machines where he found many moments of excitement. Boating and fishing were another of his favorite pastimes, offering him serenity and adventure on the water, and his love of dogs brought him years of pleasure. Jim's travels were extensive and filled with wonder. He took many memorable trips to Colorado and Alaska, immersing himself in the natural beauty and rugged landscapes. Cruising was another pleasure he frequently indulged in, exploring new destinations and reveling in the journey, always with Sandra by his side, and oh -those trips to Vegas!!!!
Jim was the son of the late James and Wilhelmina (Gorsak) Orwig. Jim is survived by his loving wife Sandra D. (Mann) Fennelly. He is the devoted father of Wendy Orwig Doyle and her husband Peter of Plymouth, Heidi Orwig of Braintree, Robin Orwig Nason and her husband Dave of Nashua, New Hampshire, Darlene Fennelly of Weymouth and Wendy Fennelly Hayden and her husband Curtis Begley of Longmont, Colorado. He is the proud Grandfather of James Moran, Bailey Moran, Nora Hayden, Izzie Hayden and Kylee Fennelly. Jim is the Great Grandfather of C.J. Moran. Brother of Carol Dickinson of Pittsburgh, PA and Wilma Dudley of Sevierville, Tennessee. He was the brother of the late Marie Elm formerly of Kittanning, PA. Jim is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as a large extended family.
Rather than flowers the family sincerely requests that Memorial donations in Jim's memory may be sent to Shultz's House Dog Rescue at https://www.sghrescue.org or to 13 Burgess Lane, Dedham, MA 02026.
