James Pero II, 45, of Pampa, passed away on June 7, 2025, in Lubbock.

A reception of remembrance will be 5:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Harbor Community Event Center. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

This is an informal gathering for all of James’ friends to come to share and remember James’ life.

James was born on March 2, 1980, in Fort Polk, Louisiana to James and Alveda Pero. He grew up and graduated from school in Louisiana. After high school, James would go to school to study his long-term trade as a welder; however, James would also learn to be a tattoo artist, a job that brought him the most pride and accomplishment. In 2000, James came to Pampa to live, work, and help raise his three children. While in Pampa, he worked for Kimray, National Oilwell, Harvester Lanes, and the Hideaway Lounge, making many, many friends along the way.

James was an adventurous man who loved the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially his true love, riding his Harley. He could also be found playing many pool and bowling games. James was a respectful man but also a funny guy who loved a good joke. He was a giving person who was generous, charitable, and who put many others before himself, and in a final act of charity, James’ organs and tissue helped countless people nationwide. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

James is survived by two daughters, Jayci Carroll- Smith of Pampa, and Mikayla Betzold- Pero of Panhandle; a son, Hayden Betzold-Pero of Panhandle; parents, James and Alveda Pero of Tucumcari, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Aspen and Rebecca; two sisters, Mary Spencer and husband Stephen of Whitesboro, and Darlene Pero and significant other Jeremy Dickinson of Pampa; and other extended family.
