James L. Peters, 77 years old, from Osage Beach, Missouri passed away Monday April 28, 2025 at Stonebridge Senior Living. He was born December 27, 1947 in Hannibal, MO to Frederick W. and Dorothy M. (Howerton) Peters.
Jim was raised in Shelbyville Missouri and graduated from North Shelby High School. At the age of 24, Jim joined the United States Army. He spent most of his 12 year military career as a MP. He also had a variety of jobs throughout his life, including being a truck driver, school janitor and doing various factory and manufacturing jobs. His last job was working at Woodland Scenics in Linn Creek, MO where he retired after 20 years of employment in 2015. Following his retirement, Jim stayed close to home in Linn Creek, where he had resided since around 1995. He had a love for trains, and enjoyed his years working at Woodland.
In August of 2022, Jim moved into Stonebridge on the Skilled Nursing side of the facility. Jim made a lot of friends while working at Woodland and some of them often inquired about him after he moved into Stonebridge. In May of 2024, he moved to the Assisted Living side, where he enjoyed having his own private studio suite. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at Stonebridge and all of the fantastic employees that he interacted with each and every day. He enjoyed participating in the activities they provide, with bingo being his favorite. He received many awards for getting the most bingos in an afternoon.
Jim leaves behind a brother Tom Peters (Kathy) from Shelbyville MO, a sister Susie Campbell from Punxsutawney, PA and a son James Welford from Des Moines, IA as well as two grandsons, four nieces and a nephew. He also leaves behind close friends, Bruce and Pam Elliott and the loving staff at Stonebridge Senior Living.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother William J. Peters and a great-nephew.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes, 1270 S Business Route 5, Camdenton, MO 65020 (573) 346-2090. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.hedgesscottmillard.com.
