James H. Phillips, Jr. passed from this life on April 21, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
James was the nineteenth child born to James Sr. and Flossy (Hibbs) Phillips on March 12, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended school in Malden, Missouri, and then went into the Navy. While in the Navy, James obtained his GED. While in the Navy, he was sent to Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. When he was on leave from the war, he married his wife Rhonda Gray on June 23, 1967. James returned to Vietnam and began working in the Construction Battalion as a Seabee. After James left the Navy, he and his wife moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where he began working in the oil field.
James moved to Oklahoma following his children to continue to be close to them and a part of their lives. While in Oklahoma, he began driving 18 wheelers for about 5 years, then continued his work in the oil field for another 10 years, but went back to driving a truck for 10 more years until his retirement in 2017. Spending time with his kids and grandkids was his favorite past time, but when he wasn't doing that, he was riding his motorcycle, doing trivia and puzzles, but also finding inconsistencies in movies.
James is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rhonda, his two sons Jody Michael Phillips and Allen Darrell Phillips and one grandson Alex Edward Phillips.
He is survived by his daughter Jacquie Dawn Gwyn and husband Michael of Coweta, OK; daughter-in-law Tonya Phillips of Cushing, OK; four grandchildren, Darrell Shane Phillips and wife Hannah of Cushing, OK, Austin James Phillips of Cushing, OK, Mercedes Tiera Gwyn of Coweta, OK and Cody Michael Darrell Gwyn of Coweta, OK; two great-grandchildren, Tyberious Virtus Edward Whitted of Cushing, OK and Alex Cayden Phillips of Cushing, OK.
Graveside services will be held for James at Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing, OK, at 3PM on Friday, April 28th.
